The Treatment of Pulmonary Blastomycosis

TIMOTHY TAKARO M.D.1; JAMES E. T. HOPKINS M.D.1; and JAMES D. MURPHY M.D., F.C.C.P.1

1 The Veterans Administration Hospital, Oteen, North Carolina.

From this study, one can only conclude that a completely satisfactory form of treatment for pulmonary blastomycosis has not yet been found. Pulmonary resection for localized, stable lesions after immunological balance is obtained may be an important therapeutic aid. The use of undecylenic acid orally and of stilbarnidine or 2-hydroxystilbamidine intravenously are useful measures. Combined therapy with undecylenic acid and one of the diamidines may be the best method of drug treatment available.
