1 Director of the Phtisiological Clinic of the University and of the Institute "Principi di Piemonte," Naples, Italy.
The endocavitary suction drainage, introduced by the author in 1938 for the therapy of tuberculous cavities, has been later adapted to the treatment of other pathological cavities of the lungs and particularly for abscess cavities.
The medical literature does since 1938 record 89 cases of lung abscesses treated with the endocavitary suction, a large percentage of which have been healed.
The author reports on a new group of patients suffering from serious forms of lung abscess both unilateral and bilateral, in whom the suction drainage, combined with the use of antibiotics, has brought about in a short time complete recovery.
