The sputa of all newly admitted patients were cultured for fungi during a period of 11 months. Four cases of histoplasmosis were detected among 505 patients. M. tuberculosis was not cultured from any one of these. However, Cryptococcus neoformans and Geotrichum candidum were coexistent with M. tuberculosis in one patient each.
