The Effect of Xanthin Derivatives: Ro 1-8239, Aminophylline and Dihydroxy Theophylline on Chronic Pulmonary Disease

1 The Instituto de Cirugia Cardiovascular y del Torax.

There is no significant difference between the action of aminophylline, dihydroxy-theophylline and xanthin derivative Ro 1-8239 on chronic pulmonary disease.

Intravenous injection of various xanthinic compounds produce an important significant reduction of physiological dead space and VD/VT ratio, an increase in alveolar ventilation, decrease in pCO2, arterial oxygen saturation and an increase in arterial pH. These actions are best explained as an improvement in the ventillation-perfusion ratio, with or without bronchodilatation.
