Azygography performed on 112 patients suffering from proved bronchogenic carcinoma showed evidence of occlusion of the azygos vein in each instance of centrally localized tumors. Beside obstruction of the azygos vein, metastases were also observed in the contralateral mediastinal lymph nodes in hilar distribution. The harmless method of azygography can afford useful help in preoperative exploration of mediastinal metastases in bronchogenic carcinoma.
