Surgical Removal of the Carotid Body for Bronchial Asthma

KOMEI NAKAYAMA M.D., F.C.C.P.1

1 Professor of Surgery, Chiba University School of Medicine.

Removal of the carotid body is often the procedure of choice in asthmatic patients. This is a simple procedure and shows good results without residual ill-effects in many cases. Indications for this operation must be better defined and strictly considered. Its logical basis, operative technique, indications, immediate and long-term results are described on the basis of the author's wide experiences.
