Endobronchial Chondroma as a Trigger Mechanism in Asthma

Report of a Case with Endobronchial Extirpation of Chondroma

Ivar Kallqvist M.D.1 and Eric Carlens M.D.2

1 Chest Clinic
2 Department of Thoracic Surgery, Karolinska Sjukhuset

A case is presented in which an endobronchial chondroma acted as a "trigger mechanism" for long-standing symptoms of asthmatic type. The tumor was revealed by bronchoscopy following roentgenologic detection of localized atelectasis. It was extirpated via the bronchoscope. The symptoms disappeared immediately after the operation and have now been absent for a year.
