Reasons are stated for the prevailing controversial attitudes toward the use of quinidine in atrial fibrillation. The benefits of establishing normal sinus rhythm are cited. Present-day methods for the administration of quinidine are described and precautionary measures to safeguard the patient from serious toxic reactions to the drug are emphasized. Under the circumstances outlined, few patients need be denied the advantage of conversion to normal sinus rhythm.
