Thoughts on the Choice of a Diuretic

The cycle of diuretic drugs continues and many methods are available. However, the organomercurial diuretic is the most efficient, especially in the emergency situation. The oral thiazide diuretics are the least troublesome for the maintenance of dry weight. Nothing ever supplants the thoughtful physician who will choose the diuretic agent of greatest benefit in the given situation and who will prevent altered metabolic states by constant vigilance.
