1. Congenital insufficiency of the pulmonary valve with a ventricular septal defect is an extremely rare malformation.
2. In only one of 16 anatomically proved cases was the sex of the patient female.
3. The age spectrum in which this malformation has been observed ranged from the newborn period to 46 years of age.
4. It may be a cause of congestive cardiac failure during infancy or in adulthood.
5. This malformation should be suspected in any patient with (a) continuous or systolic-diastolic murmur, (b) electrovectorcardiographic changes consistent with right atrial enlargement and right ventricular hypertrophy, and (c) roentgenologic evidence of a markedly dilated and pulsating pulmonary artery.
