A Bellows-type Spirometer for Measuring the Forced Expirogram

John W. Vance M.D., F.C.C.P.1

1 Emphysema Research Clinic of the University of Buffalo Chronic Disease Research Institute

A bellows-type spirometer, the Pulmonor, has been evaluated as a tool for measuring the forced expirogram. Its accuracy compares favorably to that of a 13.5 liter modified water-displacement type spirometer with a drum speed of 32 mm. per second. The attributes of accuracy, rapidity of measurement, and low cost make the Pulmonor a useful instrument for routine clinical spirometry.
