Intercostal Lung Bulging, A Roentgen Sign of Emphysema in Adults

S. Schorr M.D.1 and M. Aschner M.D.1

1 X-ray Departments, Municipal Hospitals

An additional roentgenologic sign for over-expansion of lung and/or emphysema is described. Intercostal lung bulging was observed in cases where other x-ray signs of emphysema were not present. Posteroanterior, lateral, and/or oblique roentgenograms are necessary in order to establish more definitely the diagnosis of increased lung volume.
