Treatment of Coronary Occlusive Disease: Critical Review

Albert N. Brest M.D., F.C.C.P.1

1 Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital

The management of coronary arterial occlusive disease presently is demanding of considerable clinical skill. The control of contributing factors and predisposing diseases along with appropriate dietary modification is generally agreed upon. However, the use of antianginal, antilipemic and anticoagulant drugs, as well as radioiodine therapy is at least in part empirical and potentially dangerous. Surgery for coronary insufficiency is generally unsatisfactory. The ultimate goal of the therapist will not be achieved until the mechanisms underlying atherogenesis are fully elucidated.
