Approximately 50 per cent of 479 patients with rheumatic heart disease were found to be free of physical limitations due to their heart disease (Functional Class I). Of the symptomatic patients, almost 32 per cent had mild exertional symptoms (Class II), 14 per cent marked exertional symptoms (Class III), and over 4 per cent had symptoms at rest (Class IV).
Age and functional capacity data in specific valvular involvement are presented in are presented in 379 of the 479 cases and the observations discussed.
