1 Department of Thoracic Surgery, State Tuberculosis Hospital
Twenty-five patients with suture constriction of the apical portion of the lung (Paulino thoracoplasty) for pulmonary tuberculosis have been reviewed. Indications for the procedure have been given. The advantages of the procedure in poor risk patients over pulmonary resection and classic thoracoplasty have been discussed. Preoperative symptomatology, pulmonary function, and sputum studies are reported. The postoperative results are noted and lead us to the conclusion that this procedure has a definite place in the armamentarium of the surgeon in the management of selected patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
