1. A clinico-physiologic study of the lungs in 15 cases of histologically proved progressive systemic sclerosis is presented. In one case, the pulmonary manifestations preceded the skin changes by three years.
2. The pulmonary function tests carried out include a study of the expired CO2 concentration in 11 cases. The changes in function indicate that every aspect of pulmonary function may be disturbed. Pulmonary involvement may be revealed by lung function tests before the appearance of clinical symptomatology or roentgen changes.
3. The effects of corticosteroids in two cases and antiserotonin in three cases are reported.
4. The association of scleroderma and lung cancer is reported in one case.
