Measurements of inspiratory and expiratory flow rates were performed on patients with asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and heart disease. In all patients, reduction of expiratory flow rate was associated with increase of the ratio of inspiratory to expiratory flow rate, and this ratio was of no value in distinguishing between the four conditions.
