Radiologic Assessment of Pulmonary Insufficiency and cough Effectiveness

Charles Oderr M.D., F.C.C.P.1

1 Chief of Radiology, Veterans Administration Hospital

Our experience indicates that fluorodensimetry adds a set of simple but valuable tests to the armamentarium of radiologists and chest physicians. Its special features are as follows: (1) it tests individual parts of the lung separately; (2) does not require any attachments to the patient's nose or mouth; and (3) permits evaluation of the degree to which muscle deficiency, paradoxic ventilation, and loss of nerve muscle coordination may contribute to the patient's respiratory deficiency.
