1 Cardiopulmonary Function Laboratory, Department of Medicine, U.S. Naval Hospital

The phenomenon of ventriculophasic arrhythmia (VPA) has been studied in 44 patients with paroxysmal atrial tachycardia with block. A positive VPA was found to occur in 82 per cent of the patients with digitalis intoxication, but only in 32 per cent of patients not intoxicated by the drug. Of practical importance is the observation that positive VPA of 0.04 second or greater is a strong indication that digitalis is a causative factor in patients with PAT with block.
