We have pointed out the similarities and differences in rupture of the esophagus from pressure perforation of vomiting, blast and external trauma. Earlier diagnosis depends chiefly on an awareness of the possibility of esophageal involvement, and it should be a part of every examination when injuries in the area are sustained. The diagnosis is easily established and treatment by surgical repair is usually successful
