1 Thoracic Surgical Service, Akron City Hospital
In the experimental animal, a gritty paste containing asbestos powder and penicillin crystals measuring up to 1,000 micra in length (Pen-A-Brasive), effectively destroys the mesothelial lining and leads to a firm obliteration of the pleural cavity. Utilizing a thoracoscope for introduction, the method finesses a thoracotomy and has led to minimal complications. The method has a limited potential in man for the production of pleural symphysis.
