The Use and Tissue Reaction of a Biologic Adhesive in the Prevention of Air Leak Following Transection of the Lung

1. Methyl 2-cyanoacrylate monomer is an effective agent for sealing small surface air leaks of the lung following pulmonary resection.

2. When applied as a thin film while the lung is fully expanded it produces only a limited reaction in lung tissue which subsided shortly with minimal adhesions being formed.

3. Long-term follow-up on animals so treated revealed no chronic systemic toxicity.
