Tuberculosis Control in India

Charles B. McCreary M.D.1

1 Board of Missions, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod; Wheat Ridge Foundation

Although economical and potentially effective methods could gradually control tuberculosis in India, it remains an unanswered question as to whether or not control will be achieved. It is easy to blame the poverty and ignorance of the rural people for this situation, but administrative and operational problems seem equally at fault. Medical science, without the ability to implement its methods effectively, may lose some ground to the tubercle bacilli. A challenging situation exists.
