Capricious Behavior of Pulmonary Bullae Developing Fluid

Eli H. Rubin M.D., F.C.C.P.1 and Abraham S. Buchberg M.D., F.C.C.P.1

1 Division of Pulmonary Medicine, Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, Bronx, New York

Emphysematous bullae developing fluid are described in two cases. Prolonged observation reveals that both bullae and fluid may disappear or the fluid may absorb leaving the antrum unaffected or both may reappear after a variable period. The capricious behavior of bullae developing fluid explains in part the difficulties encountered in their management.
