Sternal Chondroma

Seymour Katz Capt., MC, USAF1

1 Department of Medicine, USAF Hospital Eglin, Eglin AFB, Florida

This case report of a benign primary cartilaginous sternal tumor illustrated an extremely rare lesion and its unusual presentation. Extensive excision was indicated despite the apparent benignity of the tumor. This aggressive surgical approach was based on nonhistologic criteria and past experience with the natural history of axial cartilaginous tumors.
