Hypertension and Muscular Subaortic Stenosis

Eduardo Moreyra M.D.1; Pieter Knibbe M.D.1; and Albert N. Brest M.D., F.C.C.P.1

1 Section of Cardiology, Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

A case of concomitant muscular subaortic stenosis and systemic hypertension is reported and the possible relationship between these two conditions analyzed. The suggestion is made that in similar cases the muscular subaortic stenosis should be treated initially. If instead the blood pressure is lowered first, the resulting increase of the left ventricular outflow tract obstruction may worsen the cardiac status of the patient.
