Delayed Retrograde Embolectomy Performed at the Time of Open Mitral Repair

The successful application of retrograde embolectomy in clearing the aortic bifurcation five weeks following acute occlusion has been performed concurrently with open mitral repair. We believe that in certain selected cases of rheumatic mitral valve disease associated with peripheral embolism, this combined approach may be the procedure of choice.
