Massive Cavitation of the Lung in Hodgkin's Disease

Bernard C. Korbitz M.D.1

1 Division of Clinical Oncology, University of Wisconsin Medical Center, Madison, Wisconsin

A patient is presented with Hodgkin's disease of the lymphocyte depletion type refractory to all therapy terminating in death nine months after initial symptoms. Parenchymal pulmonary involvement developed with subsequent massive cavitation. Repeated ante-mortem sputum cultures and postmortem studies failed to disclose the presence of fungi or mycobacteria.
