Critical Role of the Mitral Valve Leaflet in Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis and Amelioration of the Disease by Mitral Valve Replacement

Two case reports underscore the importance of the mitral valve—specifically, the anterior leaflet—in the anatomic and hemodynamic lesions of hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. We explored the reciprocal relationship between asymmetric septal hypertrophy and the mitral valve. One patient had relief of outflow obstruction after mitral valve replacement.
