A tropine increased the heart rate in two patients with acute myocardial infarction and was associated with the appearance of ectopic ventricular activity not present during the control slow heart rate period. Ventricular ectopy occurring during slow rates is well known but little emphsis is placed on repid ratedependent ectopy. Other situations in which an increase in heart rate exposes ventricular ectopy include digitalis toxicity, cyclopropane anesthesia, and exercise. An attempt is made to relate these diverse entities to a common mechnism.
