Lobar lavage was used to treat one patient with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) and one with desquamative interstitial pneumonia (DIP). The procedure was well tolerated by these patients, resulting in significant improvement in clinical status, pulmonary function, and roentgenographic findings. This method of lavage may be the preferred form of therapy in PAP and can be beneficial in DIP.
