1 Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa
2 Chief, Department of Hematology
Two unusual cases of massive hemothorax are presented. The first resulted from hemorrhage from a trophoblastic tumor that had metastasized to the lung. Wedge excision of the tumor in the lung and methotrexate chemotherapy cured both the hemothorax and the trophoblastic tumor. The second case represents hemothorax resulting from a rupture of a splenic artery aneurysm that had eroded through the left diaphragm. Early surgical treatment was prompted by a rapidly accumulating hemothorax and aortography. This patient is the first survivor of such an unusual entity.
