1 Departments of Medicine and Surgery, St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center of New York, New York City
Our patient was a shizophrenic man who aspirated a large spike and then ingested an unknown amount of salicylate. The diagnosis of salicylate intoxication was suspected on admission to the emergency area because of results of serum electrolyte and arterial blood gas analysis. The diagnosis of salicylate overdosage is discussed.
