Paradoxic Coronary Embolism in a Patient with Mid-Systolic Click Syndrome

John W. Schatz Maj, MC1 and James A. Fischer Maj, MC1

1 Department of Cardiology, Silas B. Hays Army Hospital, Fort Ord, California

Embolic coronary artery disease is an uncommon cause of death. A paradoxic thromboembolism to the left coronary artery was the reason for death in a 53-year-old man who presented with a mid-systolic click syndrome and chest pain. His clinical course and postmortem findings are presented. Paradoxic coronary artery embolism is reviewed. An unusual etiology of systolic click syndromes is suggested. Thoughts about therapy are presented.
