1- or
2-Adrenoceptors?
1 From the Ernst Boehringer Institute for Arzeimittelforschung, Vienna, Austria
Stimulation of
-adrenoceptors within medullary brain structures leads to cardiovascular depression by sympathetic inhibition and vagal activation. The central
-adrenoceptors have been identified to be located postsynaptically (agonists are active after depletion of endogenous catecholamines) and to be of the
2 type (high agonistic activity of clonidine-like drugs with
2-selectivity and high antagonistic activity of rauwolscine, which is highly
2-selective).
