Re: Is serial echocardiographic evaluation really necessary in patients with mobile thrombi in the heart

amaldor{at}yahoo.com Abel Maldonado-Ortiz. FCCP, et al.

Is serial echocardiographic evaluation really necessary in patients with mobile thrombi in the rigth heart? Clinical benefict or clinical anxiety. We read with great interest the article by Ferrari et al. ( March 2005 ) 1 concerning the evolution of right heart mobil clots after surgical, thrombolytic treatment TT, or heparin alone. [1] We wonder if it is really necessary to perform serial echocardiographic evaluations? In this report, 50 echos were performed in 18 study subjects without clear indication that these studies changed management. [2] It is not immediately obvious which patients can be treated with heparin alone.
