I read with interest the article on the prevalence of pulmonary parenchymal tuberculosis in patients with tuberculous pleritis by Kim HJ, and his colleagues.infact this study confirms our findings in a retrospective study of 100 patients with pleural tuberculosis which was published in Respiratory medicine in 2005 (Ref. 1)which concluded that pleural tuberculosis disease pattern may differ among developed and developing countries. Our study was conducted in Qatar and interesingly we found different results from what was published previously in developed countries and in the current study, our study showed that younger age groups are more commonly affected than older age groups( 84% of patients were below the age of 45 years) and more interestingly the pleural disease in our study tended to be a primary one and the parenchymal lung involvement on chest radigraph was absent in 78% of cases as compared to the current study which showed parenchymal involvement on chest radiograph in 67% of cases. We concluded that pleural tuberculosis disease pattern may differ among developed and developing countries.
