CHEST
Editorial Guidelines and Price Schedule for Supplement Submissions
Please Note: New policies as of January 2007
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS | PRINTABLE COPYRIGHT RELEASE FORM
Beginning January 1, 2007 CHEST is following new policies about the types of supplements it publishes. Although CHEST will consider industry-sponsored supplements for publication, it will attempt to publish only those supplements that significantly add to the literature or provide information that will significantly impact patient care. For example, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines will still be considered for publication as supplements to the journal.
Manuscripts received by the CHEST editorial office for publication in a CHEST supplement must meet the following criteria to be considered for publication.
Submission Guidelines:
- The program for the proposed supplement must be reviewed and approved by the Editor-in-Chief in advance of the conference/symposium. Manuscripts are subject to peer review and may be rejected if they do not meet CHEST standards.
- Supplements must have a commitment of funding, ideally from an NGO, philanthropic foundation, or government-funded health-care body; however, the supporting organization shall not in any way dictate or impact the editorial content of the supplement. No title or article shall have the appearance of a conflict of interest, paid advertisement, or proprietary study (such decisions to be made by the Editor-in-Chief). Supplement manuscripts should be authored by the authors. Ghost authorship is not permitted. Any editorial assistance and/or writing support should be acknowledged in compliance with the authorship standards of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) (WAME ghost writing/authorship statement).
- Supplement material should have a broad interest to one or more constituent memberships of the ACCP (cardiologists, cardiovascular or thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, critical care physicians, anesthesiologists, etc).
- Time of the publication will be decided by the editorial production staff of CHEST. An estimated publication date will be set once CHEST offices have received all the supplement material. CHEST reserves the right to move up or delay publication.
- A designated supplement material receipt date will be set by the CHEST editorial offices. All manuscripts and materials must reach the editorial offices by that date; late material will not be processed for publication.
- Manuscripts shall be submitted all at one time, in both paper form and in electronic form on CD or DVD, complete with electronic versions of all tables, glossy copies of all figures, and assignment of copyright signed by all authors; each manuscript should include the address, phone number, fax number, and email address of the corresponding author. It should also contain a complete Table of Contents. CHEST will oversee uploading supplement manuscripts into its submission system once the material has undergone peer review.
- All manuscripts should be 10-15 double-spaced typewritten pages, with bibliographies limited to no more than 50 references. Manuscripts should also conform to CHEST Preparation of Manuscripts instructions in all editorial aspects. Studies should be formatted, including abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections. Manuscripts that are not studies shall be either formal lectures, review articles, or commentaries. Lists, outlines, musings, and editorials will not be acceptable for publication.
- The supplement will be mailed by ACCP to all recipients of CHEST (ACCP members and CHEST subscribers, domestic and foreign), a circulation of about 22,000 clinical cardiopulmonary specialists and institutions. The supplement will also be published online at www.chestjournal.org.
Price Schedule:
- The cost of a supplement will hinge on its length in printed pages and on the printing process (B/W vs 4-color). The minimum supplement length will be 32 printed pages; the maximum supplement length will be 150 printed pages.
- Pricing:
The price of a supplement will be $100,000 for up to 100 pages; each additional 4-page increment, or portion thereof, will cost $2,500.
4-Color process (if color figures are used in the supplement) will add $5,000 to the total cost of the supplement. This covers up to 10 color figures. Additional color figures will cost $500 each.
- Purchase of Additional Copies:
Additional copies may be purchased by the sponsors at a cost of $4.00 per copy. Please inquire about pricing for large quantities (more than 5,000) of overrun copies.
